Craig Arthur - Arthurian LlangollenCraig Arthur - Arthurian Llangollenhe patron saint of Llangollen, St Collen, is said to have had a fight with a giantess who guarded Bwlch Rhiwvelen, known today as the Horseshoe Pass.

Craig Arthur - Arthurian Llangollenhis giantess had been killing every human who had tried to cross the pass and Collen grabbed his sword and set off for the roadway. Whilst in combat with her he cut off her right arm, which she promptly picked up and began attacking Collen with!

Craig Arthur - Arthurian LlangollenCraig Arthur - Arthurian Llangollene then cut off her other arm and this caused the giantess to cry out for the help of Arthur from his stronghold in the Eglywseg escarpment.

Craig Arthur - Arthurian Llangollenhis stronghold is the tallest cliff in the valley, known today as Craig Arthur and on the summit of this cliff is a strange rock formation known as Cadair Arthur (Arthur's Chair). The cliff is very steep, difficult to approach and is not on any footpaths.
