There’s a tremendous amount of things to see and do in Llangollen alone, be it a day trip, a weekend or even longer, the town has something for everyone.

The main coach parking area in the town is in Market Street, which puts the town and its attractions within easy reach of visitors. Coach parking is free and well managed and room is always available, with overspill if required.

Attractions such as the heritage Steam Railway, horse-drawn Boats on the beautiful Llangollen Canal and Plas Newydd, home of the famous Ladies of Llangollen, are extremely popular. They each have their own drop-off points or an excuse to explore the town from the main coach park.

Llangollen has one of the greatest number of independent shops anywhere in Wales, offering anything from Clogeau Gold, Pilgrim Jewellery, Port Meirion Pottery and Hand Crafted Welsh Gifts to clothing, leather goods and florists.

The fresh produce is often locally sought and our very own chocolatier and delicatessen add that little bit of flavour to the whole proceedings.

Take a relaxing lunch in our many quality eateries - why not try a sumptuous cream tea in one of our traditional tea rooms, or a glass of wine with menus to tempt and delight at our selection of Bistros, Wine Bars, Restaurants and Hotels.

There are lovely walks for all levels in the area, especially along the scenic Riverside Walk leading to the relaxing Town Park. For the more energetic a walk to the ruins of the 13th century Castell Dinas offers spectacular views over the Dee Valley.

With all this in mind we’ve put together some alternatives on how to best spend your time in Llangollen, be it for a couple of hours or that little bit longer….

A Couple of Hours

Suggestion 1

Park in the Town Centre Coach Park and make your way to the Llangollen Wharf for a horse drawn boat trip , which takes approximately 45 minutes.

Follow this with a visit to the fascinating Llangollen Museum on Parade Street (link), which is free!

This would leave time to explore the town shops and perhaps have a bite to eat!

Suggestion 2

Drive up to Plas Newydd - home of the famous Ladies of Llangollen - and spend two hours in this fascinating house and gardens. There is a tea room for refreshments and you can explore the house and grounds at your leisure.

Suggestion 3

Take a walk to the Tourist Information Centre and get a map of the town - the excellent staff will point out the many things of interest to look out for as you explore the town and just browse the shops, leaving time for the all important refreshments!

Staying that Bit Longer?

Add the following to any of the suggestions above:

Suggestion 1

Llangollen Railway - experience a train ride up the Dee Valley- the shortest trip takes approximately 1hr 20mins.

Suggestion 2

Llangollen Wharf - rather than the horse drawn boats take a 2 hr motorised canal long-boat cruise over the world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

Suggestion 3

Horseshoe Pass - take a scenic drive over this spectacular pass, taking in en route the Llangollen Motor Museum, (link) with its motorbikes, cars, motoring memorabilia and ephemera, then onto the spectacular Valle Crucis Abbey.
